A premier, white throwing clay that is easy to throw and form. Excellent glaze results.
Fires White
Smooth porcelain texture.
Texture: Very Smooth
Firing Range: 1160-13000C
Shinkage @1200C: 12%
Vitreous @ 1200C
Even whiter than the mid-fire porcelain, this body also has exceptional throwing properties.
It is highly rated by Anneke Borren, Raewyn Atkinson and Neil Grant.
It begins to show translucent qualities above 1200C and is still stable at 1300C.
What was a big surprise to see how well the high-fire Porcelain threw and then fired.
The colour response is beautiful and a couple of my regular glazes which craze normally fit like a glove.
Very translucent though and the real surprise for me is how stable they remained in the firing with NO distortion.
One bowl was sitting on a shelf that broke in the test kiln and was at about 20 degrees of level yet remained round.
My regular stonewares would have sagged and distorted way out of shape.
I can’t see any factors that need improving at this point.

This is the body of choice of Peter Collis who uses it to produce a range of thrown and built pieces up to 1 metre high.
The body enables Peter to achieve a wide range of dramtic glaze effects with consistency.
“After working with a number of white clays in recent years I have now changed the whole studio to Mid-Fire Porcelain.
It is completely universal clay. The body throws well from small delicate pieces through to bottles of over a meter.
It is versatile clay, and we use it in its finest translucent form through to large paper clay structures.
It is extremely stable and supports a wide range of glazes including the crazed glazes I am currently developing.
In fact it has solved a number of my firing problems and I am very happy to recommend it.”

An economical, and very white, stoneware body.
Excellent throwing even for very large pieces.
A favourite of Barry Doyle, Peter Smith and others.
Duncan Shearer had good fired results from his wood firings and noted that it appeared immune to carbon trapping.
